So you are considering a volunteer opportunity and are thinking about becoming a mentor. That's great! You'll find that mentoring can be one of the most satisfying and rewarding experiences you'll ever have. It doesn't take special skills to be a mentor, just a desire to listen, provide guidance and feedback, offer encouragement, and share what you have learned.
A few hours of your time each month can change a young person?s life.
As a mentor in a one-on-one relationship you can support a young person to identify his/her strengths, help them explore educational and employment options and make connections in their community. You will also have the support of the Project MOVE staff and other community resources as you help a young person with a disability navigate through their transition from school to work.
Mentors are a natural part of all our lives. So, who were the people in your life that encouraged you and helped you become who you are today? Thank them, and pass it on by becoming a mentor with Project MOVE.
